Dr. Bharat T. Doshi

Since June 2006, Dr. Bharat T. Doshi is the Director of the Milton S. Eisenhower Research Center (MERC) which conducts innovative, advanced research with broad applications across all APL programs and develops technologies of interest to the Lab's current and potential sponsors in the Department of Defense, NASA and other government agencies. He is also the Business Area Head of the Science and Technology (S&T) Business Area, which resides in MERC. In that capacity, he is responsible for creating Technology Strategy and IR&D investment strategy for the business area, and executing these strategies with the help of the Business Area Executive and Program Office. From 2003 to 2005 Dr. Doshi worked in what is now APL's Applied Information Sciences Department, leading the office responsible for developing advanced networking concepts. Doshi joined APL after a distinguished 24-year career at Bell Labs/Lucent Technologies, where he served as a senior director in the Advanced Communications Technologies Center and the director of Performance Analysis, among other management positions.

Dr. Doshi is an internationally recognized authority in optical and wireless networking technologies, Internet protocols and architectures, speech technologies and signal processing, and network design and analysis algorithms and tools. He received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay, India, and earned master's and doctorate degrees in operations research from Cornell University. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers and a Bell Laboratories Fellow. He has been awarded 43 patents, has published more than 120 technical papers, served on multiple advisory boards to U.S. government agencies and edited several technical journals.
